I recently read a piece about things you should never say to a client. In that list were the predictable boneheaded moves such as asking what the client’s company does and butchering the name of the client.
In your experience, what have been some of the lines you have said to clients that you wish you could take back? Or, perhaps more interestingly, what have you heard other accountants say to clients that made you just want to freeze time and crawl away?
It’s hard, especially in pressure situations, to say the right words–or more importantly, to avoid spewing the wrong words.
