Tear Down the Wall, Part 2

Accompanying the process of tearing down the walls of “we can’t do it” or “we’ve always done it this way” at accounting firms is the spirit of “let’s find a new way to do it.” In a recent post here on iShade’s Curator Comments titled Can’t Do It? Tear Down the Wall!, I brought attention to singer/composer Thomas Dolby’s positive reputation in the music industry for being cooperative and not a prima donna. Of course, being the goofball Curator that I am, I also called Dolby the goofball who created that annoying little pop hit “She Blinded Me With Science.”  Well, Mr. Dolby wrote in response of my post:

Hi. I’m that goofball. And if you and your readership ever stopped being annoyed by my songs, I would know I was playing it waaay too safe!

Fantastic. It’s all in innocent fun—and I think Dolby sees it that way. I heartily cheer his creativity and good-natured spirit, much like all of us in the accounting profession applaud those firms that don’t play it safe and have developed progressive, innovative initiatives in marketing, branding, hiring practices, technology, virtual offices, whatever. Stepping outside of that proverbial box gets the job done; safe and status quo aren’t in the recipe for future success.

A tip of the Curator’s cap goes to all accountants, accounting firms and Thomas Dolby for steering away from the expected, the tried and true, and the loathsome “same as last time” mentality.
