Beginning his career in 1974 at PriceWaterhouse in New York City and having always been in the accounting profession, Michael Bowlan is a key component in the growth engine of Brown Smith Wallace LLC (BSW) in St. Louis. This Northwestern University graduate and Senior Professional Services Marketing/BD Specialist at BSW has spent the last five years at this growing regional firm–a firm that will eclipse $28 million in revenue in 2012.
How is this firm of 200 moving forward? Aside from creative marketing, such as Kyle’s CPA Video Blog, BSW has been able to attract talent possessing expertise in specific services. Most recently, BSW has made positive strides by bringing in a retail practice leader, an international tax specialist, a healthcare practice leader and also creating additional non-audit opportunities with public companies.
The success they’ve had with Kyle’s videos has cemented the feeling they should do more. Commented Bowlan, “This has made us see the power of video—and now we’re going to leverage it with more serious content.” How many times have we seen service companies of all types start down the marketing trail with humor, get that door open and attention drawn, and then bring in the “meat” to put on the platter? It works…and I’ll be keeping an eye on how it plays out for BSW.
This 40-year old firm will move into a new headquarters building next spring, so if any of you are in the St. Louis area and want to help with the office build-out, give Michael Bowlan a call. He’s a resourceful guy, so I’m guessing he can set you up with a jack hammer or something.
