Device theft has exploded, growing at an amazing pace due to the lucrative secondhand market for these electronic gadgets. The manufacturers of these smartphones, tablets and such don’t seem to be terribly concerned about anti-theft protection at the moment (and probably for the foreseeable future).
What are accounting firms and accounting departments doing to safeguard these potential catastrophes? Has someone at your firm/company gone through the process of informing his/her supervisor that their (or the firm’s) tablet, smartphone or laptop is nowhere to be found–potentially exposing client data? Just thinking about it produces a cold sweat and sickening feeling.
